Tucked cozily away within the majestic mountain ranges of Northern Wyoming, the Jasper Outpost serves as a federally mandated rehabilitation facility for superheroes gone to seed; a desolate yet picturesque rest stop on the road to recovery for specially-endowed types having fallen from grace. Enter the Outpost's newest such clients, codenames Force, Scar, Déjà vu' and Jekyll-ene, a rag-tag grouping of second-tier crime-fighters for hire who arrive atop the blistery, chilled terrain toting similarly weighty emotional baggage. Soon after, as a winter storm of historic proportions blankets the surrounding landscape, a fiery plane crash lights up the horizon mere miles from the post grounds, the aftermath of which results in a savage, seemingly random murder-spree within the city limits of the twin-cities bordering the facility. As both the snowfall and body count rises to infinite heights in and around the Jasper Outpost, four flawed but powerful heroes must push aside both their personal differences and issues in order to face down a powerful, bloodthirsty entity that threatens not only the existence of two nearby towns, but perhaps the entire planet as a whole....

One by one they walk to the podium to tell their story. Family members whose relatives became infamous for crimes of unspeakable violence and unbridled insanity. They unweave their tales to an auditorium filled with young medical students tasked with writing extensive essays on the criminally insane mind. The victims of the gene pool step forward, some young and some old, some in good spirits and others solemn and grim, and regale the fascinated group with tales... Every family has buried skeletons locked away. Some simply refuse to remain in the coffin!

Framed for a murder he didn't commit, second-tier superhero Ben Thomason, known in the trades as 'Desolation Outlaw', is convicted and sentenced to life in prison at Eagle Island Detention Center, a top secret, billion dollar penitentiary that houses only the elite of super-villains and super- hero's gone bad. Following the initial incarceration phase, he greets both old allies and enemies alike amid an inexplicable feeling of dread that looms atop the desolate island location like a toxic black cloud. Set against a surreal backdrop filled with deadly mutants, vile alien entities and merciless madmen, the purest of all evils is slowly awakening just below the surface of the prison's stringently controlled environment; an ancient being whose raw power dwarfs those of all assigned inmates combined. As centuries-old mysteries unravel and shocking truths are unmasked, the imprisoned inhabitants and embittered staff of Eagle Isle are forced to ban together and pool their respective powers in order to survive the greatest threat of all, and from the most unlikely of sources. No man is an island, indeed, most notably a penal colony turned beachhead graveyard soon to be renamed 'Desolation Island'.
