    Horatio Holmes a parcouru beaucoup de chemin depuis ses jours à la Longtides Elementary. Depuis, il a appris à jouer du bugle (mal), a travaillé comme auteur de problèmes de mathématiques compétitives et a même joué dans Hamlet le personnage qui lui a donné son nom. À d'autres égards, il est toujours le même : un lecteur avide, un partisan de la justice et quelqu'un qui aime ses hot-dogs avec de la moutarde. Son écriture fait souvent preuve d'un esprit joueur aux côtés d'une profonde préoccupation pour la justice.
