Computer Graphics Tokyo, now in its fourth year, has gained a global reputation as a premier international technical conference, showcasing high-quality work in computer graphics. Each year, it attracts thousands of participants worldwide, with tens of thousands visiting the exhibition. After rigorous peer review, 34 papers were accepted this year, with contributions from the USA (40%), Japan (30%), Europe (20%), and Canada (10%). The conference features a balanced mix of advanced research, industrial surveys, and computer art technology, making it an essential forum for researchers, engineers, and administrators in the field. As computer graphics rapidly evolves, staying updated on progress is challenging. This volume presents the proceedings from Computer Graphics Tokyo '86, offering a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art. Chapter 1 focuses on computational geometry, a key area in shape modeling. Chapter 2 discusses rendering, highlighting innovative methods for visualizing shapes. Chapter 3 explores the development of user-friendly visual interfaces and languages, while Chapter 4 addresses visual databases for sharing graphics and image data.
