The image of Telemann today would lack depth without the distinctive theories of philologist and musicologist Günter Fleischhauer (1928-2002), who was born in Magdeburg and worked in Halle/Saale. This selection of his publications on Georg Philipp Telemann comprises 23 articles that showcase his research grounded in source studies, comparative analyses, and music listening, aimed at music teaching, research, and practice. The studies cover a wide range of topics, including Telemann’s instrumentation, adaptation of national styles, use of recitatives in instrumental music, settings of Latin texts, his compositional philosophy, and the portrayal of comical events in his operas and secular cantatas. They also explore the reception of Telemann's music during his time, his influence on Johann Friedrich Fasch, and Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg’s views on Telemann’s galant and contrapuntal styles. Additionally, the collection discusses selected work categories such as orchestral suites, instrumental music, and chamber music, including analyses of specific cantatas, collections, and festival music. The essays, published until 2001, offer insights into the development of Telemann research in the latter half of the 20th century.
