This book is part of a series detailing the research and development activities of the Schott Group. The scientifically grounded development of new products and processes has always been crucial to Schott, evolving significantly since the reconstruction of Schott Glaswerke in Mainz. The breadth of expert knowledge required exceeds what Schott can provide alone, leading to a tradition of collaboration with customers, universities, and research institutes. Since 1969, we have published numerous technical journals, known as Forschungsberichte or 'research reports,' which present the outcomes of these collaborations. While these reports offer current information for experts, they are not intended for those less familiar with the subject. This series aims to foster the exchange of ideas and perspectives on the diverse applications of glass and glass ceramics. We seek to share the insights gained from our research and development efforts with scientists, engineers, interested customers, and our employees, encouraging a broader understanding of these versatile materials.
