Molecular mechanisms of hypercoagulable states

The hypercoagulable states are a group of inherited and acquired disorders which lead to a propensity for thrombosis. It is now recognized that there are a number of specific genetic abnormalities, including specific mutations in antithrombotic genes, which cause inherited hypercoagulable states, also termed thrombophilias. There has been a recent explosion of research and information on understanding the molecular basis of regulation of hemostasis and the identification of molecular abnormalities that cause hypercoagulability.
