The humid tropics of African developing countries feature a complex network of rivers and streams that fluctuate with seasonal rainfall. However, the water supply and sewage disposal systems for the population reveal significant deficiencies, highlighting infrastructural and organizational issues. This study focuses on the Ogun River catchment area in SW-Nigeria, one of Africa's most densely populated regions, encompassing both remote rural areas and the urban outskirts of Metropolitan Lagos. It offers an analysis of the disparities in water supply and sewage disposal within the Ogun River Basin. The primary challenge lies in the extraction and distribution of water. Based on the analysis, several feasible proposals are made for the gradual enhancement of these systems, emphasizing the importance of understanding local socio-economic conditions for sustainable development. Although the Nigerian government has expressed intentions to improve water supply through development plans, implementation has been lacking due to inadequate organization and insufficient financial prioritization. As population figures rise and annual investments in the water sector decrease, existing budgets could be utilized more effectively with improved management. The author aims to emphasize the urgent need for those in positions of responsibility to secure and enhance water supply and sewage systems, ultimately improving the welfare of the population
