The relationship between sport and health has often been enigmatic. The historical links can be analyzed from a variety of perspectives - historical, economic, and/or cultural. Such investigations constituted the main theme of the 4th ISHPES Congress. Here, more than 50 papers were presented in ten sections: ancient practices; physical activities and medical models; sport, health and science; sport, health and policy; sport, health and gender; sport institutions and medical institutions; health and sport practices; health and aquatic practices; physical education and health; sport and health promoters.
