Healthy plants are the goal for gardeners, farmers, and foresters, as well as the focus of plant biologists. However, it is the stressed, injured, or diseased plants that reveal the full spectrum of structural and functional responses to harmful stimuli. While medical literature on diseases is abundant, similar resources on injured and diseased plants are scarce. This text aims to synthesize current knowledge on structural changes in plants affected by genetic disorders, mechanical stresses, environmental factors, and various pathogens. Nearly 75 years after Ernst Küster's last edition on pathological plant anatomy, this modern compilation emerges as a significant resource, featuring over 7000 references, including many overlooked older studies that still provide vital insights. To present this extensive information clearly, the text emphasizes schematic classifications supported by comprehensive graphs. More than half of the 1091 illustrations are original drawings and photomicrographs, with 102 in color. The first part categorizes structural deviations from the plant's perspective, while the second part follows classical plant pathology patterns based on causal factors.
