Quantum mechanics encompasses the laws of physics that describe the microworld, with quantum electrodynamics (QED) providing a precise account of phenomena relevant to daily life, such as electricity and light. QED's field theory serves as a universal language, forming the theoretical foundation for understanding many-body systems, particularly finite many-body systems (FMBS) like atomic nuclei, metal clusters, and atomic wires. These systems, composed of a small number of components, exhibit properties distinct from bulk matter, heavily influenced by quantum size effects and surface dynamics. This monograph focuses on the study of the electronic and collective behavior (including plasmons and phonons) of FMBS and their interactions, utilizing established first-principle quantum field theoretical techniques.
