This book presents stories of various fast-growing companies, featuring case studies authored by students at the Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management (WHU) in Vallendar, Germany. These case studies emerged from seminars focused on the success factors of rapidly expanding firms, conducted annually since the fall semester of 2001 in collaboration with entrepreneurs and managers from high-growth companies. The seminar was initiated in early 2001, inspired by the belief that entrepreneurship and successful innovation management were poised for a resurgence following the downturn of the new economy. The goal was to engage graduate business students in identifying cases of firms that thrived despite challenging market conditions. The book encompasses a wide array of industries, company ages, and sizes, predominantly featuring German companies. While these firms are headquartered in Germany, many have expanded internationally, with some evolving into truly global entities like Qiagen and SAP. The companies discussed span diverse sectors, including biotechnology, internet services, nanotechnology, software, and food processing, showcasing their resilience and growth in the face of adversity.
