This volume contains the proceedings of the Russian-German Advanced Research workshop on Computational Science and High Performance Computing, held in Novosibirsk Academgorodok in September 2003. Contributions were carefully selected and edited by the authors. The workshop, organized by the Institute of Computational Technologies SB RAS in Russia and the High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart in Germany, aimed to discuss recent advancements in computational science and foster collaboration between Russian and German experts. Key topics included computational hydrodynamics, the application of mathematical methods for developing new materials, environmental protection issues, and advancements in algorithms, software, and hardware for high-performance computing. The significance of these topics was underscored by the participation of representatives from major research organizations tackling complex mathematical modeling problems and developing innovative algorithms and technologies. Notable Russian participants included researchers from various institutes within the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, such as the Institute of Computational Technologies, Institute of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics, Institute of Computational Modelling, and others.
