Chairing the European Dependable Computing Conference (EDCC) is a significant honor, as it has become a well-established event in the field of dependability within European research. Budapest was chosen for its rich tradition in hosting international scientific events and its historical role as a bridge between East and West. EDCC-5 marked the fifth iteration of this high-quality conference series. This year was particularly noteworthy due to its historical context; the origins of EDCC trace back to the fall of the Iron Curtain. In 1989, two groups of scientists from Western and Eastern Europe, engaged in dependability research and education, formed a joint forum to unite their communities. This collaborative spirit has persisted, making this year's conference the first with a majority of research groups from European Union nations. Over the past 16 years, we have witnessed a seamless integration of these previously divided research communities, rooted in shared professional, cultural, and scientific values. EDCC has evolved into a primary European platform for exchanging innovative research ideas in the field of dependability.
