Ideal city - invisible cities

En savoir plus sur le livre

The exhibition explores the compelling theme of the Ideal City, featuring works by 41 international artists that reflect on both the Ideal City and its counterpart, the 'Invisible City.' Among these are 20 site-specific installations that engage with the local cityscape, addressing its unique architectural and historical context. To accompany the exhibition, Revolver Verlag has published an extensive catalogue in Polish-English and German-English versions. This catalogue includes contributions from notable authors such as Manuel Borja-Villel, Luca Cerizza, and others, offering insights into each participating artist and four critical essays on the theme. Curators Sabrina van der Ley and Markus Richter examine the connections between the Ideal City concept and visual arts, often focusing on 'invisible cities.' Katarzyna Bittner provides an overview of Zamocs' development and history, while Jan Maruhn and Carsten Schmidt critically assess whether Potsdam qualifies as an 'Ideal City.' Additionally, Maruhn contrasts the late Modernist Ideal Cities of Chandigarh and Brasilia with the designs of Polish architect Oskar Hansen, further enriching the discussion on urban ideals.
