The study aims to trace Mark Antony's politics during the well-documented period from 44 to 43 B.C., deliberately excluding later historical developments, which are often overshadowed by his defeat at Actium in 31 B.C. and subsequent damnatio memoriae. Following an overview of sources and current research, the first chapter focuses on Antony's consulate, addressing the compromise after March 15 and the ensuing political landscape until December 44. The second part, titled "Proconsul and Enemy of the State," examines the struggle for provinces, Antony's actions in Gallia Cisalpina, his political maneuvers in Rome, and the repercussions of the battles at Castelfranco/Forum Gallorum and Modena/Mutina, along with his relationship with Lepidus. The study concludes with comprehensive appendices, which include a coin catalog, a chronological overview, registers of abbreviations, sources, and literature, as well as extensive indices of ancient and modern names, coins, objects, and cited ancient texts.
