En savoir plus sur le livre
Collocations, defined as recurrent lexical chunks, highlight the differences in language use between native and non-native speakers. Their elusive nature, which deviates from straightforward lexical or syntactic rules, poses challenges for L2 users. This challenge is intensified by the inability to internalize collocations through a linear, systematic approach. This research introduces an e-collocation trainer, E-COR (Electronic Collocation Organization and Retrieval), designed as a dynamic, individualized database for translators working with English as a second language. Adopting a CALL-based framework, it incorporates user-friendly corpus linguistics guidelines and incidental learning theories to address the limitations of existing L2 collocation resources. The research demonstrates how to obtain, verify, store, and retrieve naturally-occurring collocations and collocational data at various levels. Emphasizing collocation verification meets the immediate task-based needs of translators, the study also integrates methods for enhancing long-term collocational competence through collocation production.
