En savoir plus sur le livre

Europe's religious plurality has significantly influenced the younger generation, who recognize the value of understanding diverse religious traditions and worldviews, often viewing schools as ideal venues for this exploration. This volume presents an empirical qualitative study examining the role of religion in the lives and education of young people across several European countries, including Russia, Estonia, Norway, Germany, England, the Netherlands, France, and Spain. For the first time, extensive qualitative findings are shared regarding students' attitudes towards religious diversity and education. The study organizes national findings individually, integrates bi-national analyses, and culminates in a European comparison that highlights commonalities among students' views. The data showcase a broad spectrum of opinions on religion and education, revealing both diversity and shared fundamental positions among youth across Europe. Students express a balanced perspective, acknowledging the potential for conflict within religious contexts and the challenges of inter-religious relations. Issues of stereotypes, prejudice, and exclusion persist among young people. However, they also share positive experiences, particularly in interreligious dialogue, fostering hope in religion's peacemaking potential. They aspire to peaceful coexistence and recognize the significance of religious education in achieving this goal.
