Understanding the economy

En savoir plus sur le livre

Economists traditionally focus on the production and distribution of goods and services, often neglecting other socially relevant fields. This textbook adopts a holistic approach, aiming to describe and interpret economic reality within the broader context of social, environmental, political, technical, and legal networks, collectively referred to as culture. Methodologically, it does not dismiss the analytical results of traditional economics but offers a complementary historical perspective, emphasizing that the economy is inherently linked to its societal and natural environments. This work is intended for those interested in understanding the economy without necessarily pursuing formal studies in economics. Peter Bendixen, an economist and cultural scientist, served as a professor of economics at Hamburg University of Economics and Politics until 1999 and was the director of research at the Studienzentrum Hohe Warte in Vienna until 2007. He currently lectures in arts management at Yeditepe University in Istanbul. Bendixen has authored numerous articles and books, including "Ökonomie der Entgrenzung" (2007) and "Fastfood Ökonomie" (2008).
