En savoir plus sur le livre

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD) is the most commonly diagnosed childhood disorder, affecting an estimated 3 to 5 percent of U.S. kindergarten and school-age children. Symptoms include pervasive difficulties in hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention, alongside secondary issues such as aggression, poor peer relations, academic underachievement, low self-esteem, and depressive symptoms. The risks associated with early hyperactive-impulsive-inattentive behavior, especially when combined with hostile and defiant behaviors, underscore the need for early intervention to mitigate developmental challenges. Historically, research on identifying and supporting at-risk young children has been limited. This work analyzes groundbreaking findings from a dissertation study, demonstrating that a multicomponent early intervention program, First Step to Success, can significantly benefit children with AD/HD. It addresses a range of issues linked to the disorder, including social emotional problems and disruptive behaviors. By synthesizing current intervention programs aimed at remediating social emotional and behavioral challenges in children with AD/HD, this resource aims to be invaluable for educators and researchers dedicated to addressing the needs of these children.
