En savoir plus sur le livre

The Social Web, encompassing platforms like MySpace, Flickr, last.fm, and WordPress, has drawn millions of users and significant investment. As these social websites evolve around connections between people and their interests, they face challenges in information integration, dissemination, reuse, portability, searchability, and automation. The Semantic Web offers a promising solution for interlinking and managing diverse data related to individuals and objects from the Social Web, leading to various strategies aimed at overcoming these challenges. After providing an overview of both the Social and Semantic Webs, Breslin et al. analyze popular social media and networking applications, highlighting their strengths and limitations. They explore how Semantic Web technology can enhance these applications by adding semantics to address current shortcomings. The authors present a dual approach to connect disparate social websites using semantic technologies and to enrich semantic applications with user-generated content. They conclude by discussing how applying Semantic Web technologies to the Social Web is paving the way for the "Social Semantic Web" or "Web 3.0," characterized by interconnected, semantically-rich content and knowledge. This work is geared towards computer science professionals, researchers, and graduates, as well as practitioners and developers focused on enhancing automation in blogs, social networks, and wikis.
