This book features a selection of outstanding papers from the 5th International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies (WEBIST 2009), held in Lisbon, Portugal. Organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and co-sponsored by ACM SIGMIS and the Workflow Management Coalition (WFMC), the conference aimed to unite researchers, engineers, and practitioners focused on advancements and applications in Web-based information systems. The event encompassed four main tracks: Internet Technology, Web Interfaces and Applications, Society, e-Communities, e-Business, and e-Government. WEBIST 2009 attracted 203 submissions from 47 countries, with a rigorous double-blind review process involving over 150 experts from the International Program Committee. Ultimately, 28 papers were chosen for publication as full papers, alongside 44 short papers and 35 poster presentations. The full-paper acceptance rate was 13%, with a total oral paper acceptance rate of 36%. We hope the included papers will serve as valuable references for those engaged in the relevant research areas.
