This story addresses British interest in the history of Central and Eastern Europe, presenting perspectives from those directly involved in and affected by significant events. It inevitably explores contentious topics, such as the blame for the First World War and the UK’s potential membership in a 'United Europe.' These subjects may provoke discomfort for some readers, yet the aim is to foster an objective understanding of the views of individuals who, in 1945 and with the Allied Powers' consent, were compelled to leave their homeland and belongings. On a personal note, I lament the apparent lack of hope in the UK for choosing closer ties with Europe over the United States, particularly regarding the idea of a 'European Commonwealth' with a shared currency. This situation is especially regrettable given the current resurgence of historical tensions and rivalries among European nations.
