The biannual meeting of the German Society for Cognitive Science (GK) at Potsdam University showcases current trends in human and artificial cognition, as well as the interplay between mind and brain. Plenary talks address various topics, including numerical capacities and human arithmetic (Brian Butterworth), the development of cognitive architectures and intelligent virtual agents (Pat Langley), linguistic categorizations (Claudia Maienborn), and a complex systems perspective on the Self (Paul Thagard). KogWis 2010 features a rich array of experimental research, cognitive modeling, and conceptual analysis through 5 invited symposia, over 150 individual talks, 6 additional symposia, and more than 40 poster presentations. Notably, some invited symposia highlight the research strengths of the Berlin-Brandenburg area. The Cognitive Sciences Area of Excellence at Potsdam University is represented by a symposium on Information Structure, organized by the Special Research Area 632 at both Potsdam University and Humboldt-University Berlin. Additionally, the Berlin School of Mind and Brain at Humboldt-University contributes with a symposium on Decision Making from cognitive neuroscience and philosophy perspectives, while the DFG Cluster of Excellence Languages of Emotion at Free University presents interdisciplinary findings in a symposium on Symbolising Emotions.
