Little Hanau ABC

Welcome to Hanau, the sixth largest city in the state of Hesse, a pearl alongside the shores of the river Main, a place worth visiting. Discover the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm and scene of the first French style baroque palace ever built on the right bank of the Rhine. Enjoy the idyllic spa in its original condition built in the 18th Century by Hereditary Wilhelm IX, later Elector Wilhelm I of Hesse-Kassel, as a retreat for himself and his subjects. Hanau made (architectural) history before that though: Calvinist refugees founded Neu-Hanau around the year 1600 and created checkered streets. Particularly worth seeing: the Walloon-Dutch Congregation simultaneum mixtum.
