Modelling the autopoiesis of a land tenure system

En savoir plus sur le livre

The central problem in land tenure security enhancement is the lack of knowledge concerning the impacts of land policy tools on the tenure security conditions under the complex total-element relations within a given land tenure system – along with the resulting dynamics in utility of land tenure. This may even lead to market eviction of the poor and vulnerable. This book explores the possibilities of utilizing Agent-based Simulation Models (ABSMs) to analyse the emerging behaviour of a land tenure system for given land policy alternatives. To this end this book has an in-depth focus on econometric modelling of the utility of land tenure under tenure insecurity, analysis of dynamics of perceived tenure security with the classic mind-body problem of philosophy as a backdrop, as well as usage of autopoiesis theories of biology for modelling cybernetics of a land tenure system. In this research it was found that the state of utility of land tenure under given external policy intervention is mainly determined by the complex interrelations between the properties of agents (elements) and the emerging dynamics of the land tenure system (totality) and their transformation rules. This book was published along with the conferral of the academic degree of Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) at the Faculty of Architecture, Bauhaus University of Weimar, Germany.
