Understanding and comparing modes of ventilation

En savoir plus sur le livre

The initial attempts to establish a uniform classification of ventilation modes have not resolved existing uncertainties in clinical practice. This is particularly evident in the management of transferred intensive care patients requiring ventilation or when using various intensive-care or outpatient devices, leading to potential misallocation of ventilation patterns and incorrect settings. The DIN Standards Committee for Rescue Services and Hospital (NARK) has proposed a draft standard for consistent terminology related to ventilation devices, but the mandatory implementation of ISO 19223 remains uncertain, and its appropriateness is still under discussion. The Kronberg List aims to navigate the complexities of ventilation modes, serving as a quick reference for bedside decision-making. It includes comparison tables that highlight differences among manufacturers' devices and provide detailed descriptions of relevant characteristics, facilitating user comparisons of ventilation methods. Given the growing importance of outpatient ventilation, homecare devices are also addressed. Additionally, schematic explanations of various nomenclatures are provided to aid in understanding international professional literature. This new edition has been thoroughly revised and expanded.
