Trauma among university students and how they cope it?

En savoir plus sur le livre

This study explores the role of Emotional Intelligence in developing coping strategies for adolescents facing traumatic events. The sample consists of late adolescents enrolled in university education (Bachelors/Masters), a crucial stage in their academic journey. At this point, students must enhance their competencies to succeed in exams and gain wisdom from their academic experiences. Conducted cross-culturally in Germany and Sri Lanka, the study highlights late adolescence as a pivotal period for acquiring emotional and social qualities. Many adolescents experience trauma that often goes unrecognized or untreated. First-year university students face significant challenges, including ragging by seniors, bullying, invalidation, and shifts in attitudes, all of which can be traumatic and affect their academic and daily lives. Those involved in ragging may face suspension, while younger students can become victims, leading to social impairment. It is essential to assess the resilience, emotional damage, and post-traumatic stress disorder among those affected by ragging to facilitate effective rehabilitation and improve their academic performance and social integration at university.
