Set against the backdrop of the French and Indian War in 1757, the story explores the complexities of colonial conflict, including the struggles between British and French forces, as well as Native American tribes and white settlers. Cora and Alice Munro, daughters of a British commander, embark on a perilous journey to reunite with their father. Their path is obstructed by the treacherous Magua, but they find allies in Hawk-eye, a skilled woodsman, and the last of the Mohicans, Chingachgook and his son Uncas.
