En savoir plus sur le livre

The Bayuda is a vast arid region south of the Nile's S-bend in Sudan, characterized by limited habitation due to its desert environment. Despite its harsh conditions, several valleys, notably Wadi Abu Dom and Wadi Muqqadam, collect seasonal rainfall, allowing for sparse human occupation that dates back to the Palaeolithic era. This region's archaeological evidence is crucial for reconstructing past life and understanding Sudan's cultural history. The first “Archaeological Bayuda Conference” took place from 10 to 12 September 2015 at Münster University, Germany, focusing on the current state of archaeological and cultural-historical research in the area. The proceedings compile the first comprehensive collection of archaeological studies on the Bayuda. Part I details findings from the ‘Wadi Abu Dom Itinerary’ survey project conducted between 2009 and 2016. Part II presents additional significant research, emphasizing the region's archaeological potential. The conference fostered interdisciplinary dialogue, and these proceedings aim to showcase the latest research while identifying future research questions for further exploration of the Bayuda.
