Private supplementary tutoring, often referred to as shadow education, has seen significant global expansion, consuming family resources, providing employment for tutors, and impacting regular schools. Despite its growth into a major industry and daily routine for many students and families, research on this phenomenon has lagged behind. The topic is challenging to study due to its elusive nature, with unclear boundaries and reluctance from participants to share their experiences.
