The what, the so what, and the now what of social justice education

Using a three-tiered format, this work explores the What of social justice education by defining key terminology and presenting a conceptual framework within the field. The So What emphasizes the significance of studying and promoting social justice education, highlighting the necessity of addressing social inequities to foster a more just environment. The Now What offers "best (theoretical) practices" that individuals, institutions, and societies can adopt to develop both short- and long-term solutions for achieving equity and reducing oppression. Each tier introduces influential researchers, theorists, and practitioners who have advanced our understanding of social justice education pedagogy and practice. Given the broad scope of social justice education, the potential audience is equally diverse. This work serves as a primary academic and training resource for educators from K-12 to university graduate levels, including administrators and school psychologists, as well as high school and college students in various fields such as education, social justice, multicultural education, educational psychology, civil rights history, law, and journalism. Additionally, it functions as a reference for academic researchers and journalists across multiple disciplines.
