Giovanni Battista Benedetti is recognized as a brilliant mathematical and philosophical mind of the late Italian Renaissance, yet the significance of his work remains largely obscure. This is largely due to the rarity of his major work, Diversarum speculationum mathematicarum et physicarum liber (Book of various mathematical and physical speculations), published in Turin in 1585.
