En savoir plus sur le livre

This photobook presents a fictional narrative by Carole Naggar about the intertwined lives of Magnum photographer David 'Chim' Seymour and Tereska Adwentowska, a Polish girl featured in Chim's iconic photograph. In September 1948, while working for UNICEF to document the plight of children in Europe, Chim captured Tereska at a Warsaw primary school. Her image, published in Life magazine in December, resonated with millions, symbolizing the suffering of children during World War II. Tereska had been wounded in the Wola massacre, and Chim sought to learn her full story after the war. Tragically, both met untimely deaths before reuniting. The narrative, inspired by historical events, unfolds like a small opera, incorporating diverse voices from Chim and Tereska’s lives, including her parents—her father a Freedom Fighter during the Warsaw Uprising—Doctor Stanislaw Wiktor Sierpiński, journalist Enrique Meneses, Jr., and others. The book's nonlinear chronology blends vignettes from 1948 and the present with Chim's youth and Tereska's early years. It features Chim's photographs alongside historical images, creatively arranged by award-winning designer Ricardo Báez and enhanced with striking typography by Juan Mercerón.
