En savoir plus sur le livre

For several decades, research on intelligent decision-making techniques has posed a significant challenge, initially tackled with modest hardware that now seems weak. From the beginning, the exploration of decision theory and practical concerns advanced concurrently across information technology, mathematics, operations research, and business studies. Over time, these decision-oriented research streams converged, with cross-disciplinary work in business information technology acting as a crucial ‘melting pot’ for this development. Hermann Gehring has dedicated over three decades to this field as both a scientist and educator, focusing on methods to solve complex problem situations requiring intelligent decision-making support. He embraced interdisciplinary approaches, actively engaging with modern methods that emerged from various domains and promoting hybrid techniques. Gehring was also among the first to recognize the potential of parallel processing for business decision problems, advocating for its use well before the necessary technological advancements were available. Two significant areas of his scientific work include cutting and packing problems, as well as transport planning, which highlight his contributions to the field.
