Tailoring software infrastructures

En savoir plus sur le livre

Today’s non-tayloristic work environments require flexible practices supported by dynamic IT systems, making the optimization of business processes a crucial adaptation mechanism. However, traditional process models often fail to capture all real-life scenarios, and many firms' software infrastructures lack the necessary flexibility for effective "design-in-use." Involving business users in the continuous redesign of processes can significantly improve decision-making by providing quicker access to specific information. This involvement necessitates specialized design tools. The book outlines the creation of an environment that empowers business users to model processes and workflows independently, minimizing the technical skills needed for such tasks. This environment enhances documentation by integrating usage-related information about Web services with existing functional metadata from current standards and tools. It allows for cooperative creation of this information, resulting in domain-specific documentation of services. An advanced search system is also provided to identify related services and functions. User evaluations indicated a positive perception of the modeling environment, highlighting its usefulness for visualizing and automating processes and enhancing work efficiency and efficacy through improved calculations.
