The Jefferson Bible

In this unique work, Thomas Jefferson meticulously extracted and compiled verses from the New Testament gospels to distill the essence of Christian teachings. Completed in 1820, this 82-page manuscript remained hidden until its purchase by Cyrus Adler in 1895 for the Smithsonian. It was later printed in 1904 and became a tradition for new Congressional members to receive a copy during their swearing-in.
