Dion Fortune, a British ceremonial magician and occultist, was deeply influenced by her teachings from ethereal beings known as the Ascended Masters. She co-founded the Fraternity of the Inner Light to disseminate these teachings and authored seven novels that explore occult themes. Despite her affluent background, little is known about her early life. Fortune's diverse experiences included studying psychology, working as a counselor, and engaging in various businesses, all while her interest in esoteric knowledge flourished through involvement with the Theosophical Society and an occult lodge.
