This summer in Lake Eden, Minnesota, is unusually hot, and Hannah Swensen is trying to stay cool in her bakery kitchen. Her appearance with a wealthy investor becomes the talk of the night, but the festivities take a dark turn when a partygoer plunges off the rooftop garden. The victim, sheriff's secretary Barbara Donnelly, is barely alive, raising the question of whether it was an accident or foul play. While the police investigate, Doctor Bev is more focused on rekindling her romance with Hannah's old flame, Norman. As tensions rise, Hannah's patience wears thin, and soon her rival is found dead at Miller's Pond. The only clue is a Red Velvet cupcake Bev consumed shortly before her demise, which appears to contain tranquilizers. To Hannah's shock, she becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation, feeling the heat like never before.
