That evening, however, Matty did not deliver messages. He headed to a clearing known only to him, hidden behind a thicket of prickly pines. He needed solitude to explore what he had discovered within himself and to analyze his own fear related to that discovery. Since arriving in the village six years ago, Matty had grown from a mischievous boy into a responsible young man. Guided by visions from a blind mentor, Matty carries messages through the surrounding forest, the only one able to navigate deadly traps unscathed, hoping to earn the title of messenger. When a sinister force infiltrates their world, sowing discord and anger among the once-peaceful villagers, the village closes its borders to the outside. Matty must once again confront the forest to reach the blind seer's daughter and bring her home safely. But the village has changed, and Matty finds himself in a treacherous place where even he is at risk.
