In 1978 Kabul, Sitara Zalmani, daughter of a prominent family, enjoys a privileged life amidst the city's vibrant culture. Her world collapses when a communist coup results in the assassination of her father and family, leaving her as the sole survivor. Smuggled to safety by a guard named Shair, she is adopted by a female American diplomat and raised in the U.S., where she assumes the name Aryana Shepherd. Driven by determination, Aryana excels in her studies and becomes a renowned surgeon, choosing to bury her traumatic past. Fast forward to 2018, Aryana's life is upended when Shair, the soldier who saved her, unexpectedly appears as a patient.
