A treasure hunt in Edinburgh leads to a search for a villain in the sixth Scottish Bookshop Mystery. Bookseller Delaney Nichols encounters a mysterious cloaked visitor at the Cracked Spine Bookshop, who presents her with an invitation to an exclusive treasure hunt hosted by the eccentric Shelaigh O'Connor. While intrigued, Delaney is cautious due to Shelaigh's notorious past, including a murder accusation that was ultimately dismissed. The grand prize—a valuable first edition of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde—along with the contents of Shelaigh's extensive library and a cash reward, draws her in. However, after the initial meeting of the treasure hunters, several homes in Edinburgh are robbed in a style reminiscent of Shelaigh's old antics. Tension escalates when a man linked to Shelaigh is murdered, and Shelaigh herself mysteriously disappears, suggesting a kidnapping by the villain. As fear spreads across the city, Delaney must unravel the mystery while evading the killer, who seems intent on making her his next victim.
