En savoir plus sur le livre

In September 1878, the pleasure boat Princess Alice collides with the Bywell Castle, resulting in the worst maritime disaster in London’s history, with only 130 of the 600 passengers surviving. Initial evidence suggests sabotage by the Irish Republican Brotherhood, who advocate for violence to achieve Irish Home Rule. Inspector Michael Corravan, an Irishman adopted by the Doyle family, faces a complex investigation. Accused of ignoring the obvious, he is also criticized by his Irish friends for not adhering to their views. Corravan is determined to uncover the truth, aware that blaming the IRB could jeopardize hopes for Home Rule. His challenge deepens with the involvement of Colin Doyle, the youngest member of the family, who has joined a violent gang led by James McCabe. As tensions rise in Whitechapel, Corravan negotiates with McCabe to protect Colin, unaware of the resentment Colin harbors against him. As the media ties the IRB to more incidents, London teeters on the brink of chaos. With the assistance of his colleague Mr. Stiles and friend Belinda Gale, Corravan is driven to reveal a disturbing truth that will challenge his beliefs about his countrymen, the law, and his own identity.
