January brings ice wine season to the Niagara Falls region, but Charming Books owner Violet Waverly is still haunted by a past heartbreak. The annual midnight grape-harvest festival, where her ex will be present, is the last place she wants to be. However, her omniscient Grandma Daisy has other plans, arranging for the shop to host celebrity sommelier Belinda Perkins's book signing at the event. The festivities take a dark turn when Violet discovers Belinda dead in the frozen vineyard, a grape harvest knife in her chest. Belinda, who left Cascade Springs after a fallout with her three sisters, has a connection to Violet through her high school friend Lacey Dupont, who hopes to reconcile with her estranged sister at the signing. Instead, Lacey and Belinda's reunion erupts into a public argument, making Lacey the prime suspect in the murder. Convinced of her friend's innocence, Violet seeks help from her magical bookshop, which guides her to Louisa May Alcott's *Little Women*. Intrigued by the connection between the four March sisters and the Perkins sisters, Violet must unravel the mystery before she too becomes as cold as ice. Joined by Grandma Daisy, Emerson the tuxedo cat, and Faulkner the crow, Violet dives into the investigation.
