Dave Robicheaux is a haunted man, grappling with memories from Vietnam, struggles with alcoholism, and the loss of his wife, Molly. His only solace comes from his role as a detective in New Iberia, Louisiana. In this capacity, he encounters mob boss Tony Nemo, who has a Civil War sword intended for local author Levon Broussard.
