X - Independence of character

Belgian artist Lieven de Boeck (b. 1971) explores the public domain as daily reality and context for art practice through his ongoing project, the dictionary of space. This fully illustrated, thoughtful and poetic artists book featuring a cover with a mysterious die-stamped inscription develops in text and image architectural themes and concepts including occupation, appropriation, border, territory, representation and identity. As the universal and the relative collide in our cultural landscape, space opens for poetic engagement. In this context, de Boecks artistic gestures stand out as a language, a breath, a code where identity performs for us. In this elegant publication, we are invited to explore the artists disciplined development of his themes in a variety of media from sculpture, models, and installations to publications, videos, graphic arts and more.
