Focusing on neighborhood watch groups in the Netherlands, this research explores their role in enhancing collective efficacy and reducing crime through data from 340 municipalities and ethnographic fieldwork. It examines the impact of technology, such as social media and smartphones, on public safety and policy-making. While these innovations have strengthened community safety efforts, they also raise concerns about vigilantism, stigmatization, and ethnic profiling, particularly in suburban middle-class areas, highlighting the complexities of modern policing dynamics.
