The Kingdom of Watetu and Songaland

En savoir plus sur le livre

The Kingdom of Watetu and Songaland is an autobiographical tale of Princess Mpeki, who recognized the wrongs of FGM in her Watetu tribe and sought change, a journey fraught with pain for her and her loved ones. While the Watetu practiced FGM, the neighboring Songa tribe embraced sexuality, leading to cultural clashes. After Mpeki intervened to stop her sister's mutilation, the prince of Songaland helped her escape, igniting a conflict between the tribes. This resulted in the abduction of the prince and the return of Mpeki's sister, rescued by missionaries. The prince was enslaved in Portugal, inciting a furious response from his father and sparking a two-decade war. Following the global abolition of slavery, the prince returned with Mpeki and the missionaries who aided her. Upon his arrival, his father ordered him to abandon Mpeki, believing she was cursed. However, she was not cursed; her sacrifices ultimately led to the unification of both tribes under their joint rule in the new kingdom of Watetu and Songaland, symbolizing peace, justice, and harmony. The story concludes with a grand marriage celebration between the tribes, marking the end of FGM.
