The book opens with the apparent suicide of Officer AJ Harris, a Philadelphia Police Officer and one of the first females to graduate the Philadelphia Police Academy to work patrol duties. The determination of suicide by Detective James Wexler is challenged by fellow Academy graduate Detective Samantha Kelly. Wexler and Kelly have a history of conflict including another a disagreement over another investigation of a series of deaths at a Philadelphia Nursing Home facility. Together with two fellow Police Academy classmates, Sgt. Kate Rossi and Detective Michelle Jones risk their reputations, love interests, family relationships and jobs to find the answers to questions that haunt them.
