Alberta, located on the northwestern edge of North America's vast inland Great Plains, is subject to the weather extremes commonly associated with such grassland regions around the world--scorching hot summers, frigid winters, Chinooks that can swing the temperature from winter to summer in a couple of hours, and a penchant for windstorms. Talking about the weather is a time-honoured provincial pastime but with his new book Weather of Alberta, author and meteorologist Bill Hume injects a big helping of fact into all the folklore. Bill explains all the different weather patterns, cloud shapes, snowfall and windstorms in an easy-to-understand manner supplemented with graphics and photographs. He looks back on historic weather events in Alberta, analyzes the micro-climates in different regions of the province, and explains what, if anything, is changing about Alberta weather.
