En savoir plus sur le livre
Excerpt from Aino Folk-Tales: The Japanese have largely spread across the land of the Ainos, leaving only a small remnant on the island of Yezo. Since early encounters, when Ainos were sent as curiosities to the Emperor of China, their distinct appearance and customs have intrigued more civilized nations. Many European writers have documented their lives, but few have had the insights of Mr. Basil Hall Chamberlain, a Professor of Philology at Tokyo University. He has gathered a collection of Aino tales and provided an insightful account of their culture and mindset. While it may not be my place to add to such a well-covered topic, the Editor of the folklore Journal has invited me to write an Introduction, allowing me to highlight Professor Chamberlain's perspectives from another publication that may be overlooked by English folklore students interested in the Aino. About the Publisher: Forgotten Books publishes numerous rare and classic works, utilizing advanced technology to digitally reconstruct texts while preserving their original format. Although some imperfections from the original may be present, the majority are repaired to maintain the integrity of historical works.
